Healthcare scholarships in Singapore are centrally administered by the Ministry of Health Holdings (MOHH). The MOHH serves as the holding company for local public healthcare clusters and awards various different kinds of healthcare scholarships at both the undergraduate and graduate level. These scholarships are awarded to students who have a passion for developing Singapore’s healthcare sector.

Undergraduate Healthcare Scholarships Program 

1. Healthcare Merit Award/Healthcare Merit Scholarship (HMA/HMS)

Healthcare Merit Award (HMA): This is given to deserving students who have a strong academic record and a desire to work in public healthcare.

Healthcare Merit Scholarship (HMS): This award is given to outstanding individuals who are passionate about Singapore’s public healthcare while demonstrating academic excellence, strong leadership qualities, and community spirit.

Post-award, all Healthcare Merit Award ​recipients will be monitored and assessed for their suitability for an upgrade to Healthcare Merit Scholarship.

Eligibility

General – Applicants must:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident who is willing to take up Singapore citizenship
  • Good co-curricular activities record and strong leadership qualities
  • Passion for serving in the public healthcare sector
  • Good communication skills

Full-Term

  • Achieve outstanding A-level results (offered at least 10 academic units), diploma with merit/distinction or equivalent qualifications, (e.g. International Baccalaureate (IB) or NUS high school diploma)

Mid-Term

  • Achieve outstanding academic results and on track to graduate with at least a diploma with merit/distinction (for current diploma students), or at least Second Class (Upper) Honours or equivalent (for current undergraduates)
  • Have completed at least 1 semester of study in health science disciplines at local polytechnics, local universities, or MOHH-approved overseas universities

Degree Conversion

  • Achieve outstanding academic results, on track to graduate with at least a diploma with merit/distinction

2. Healthcare Administration Scholarship (HAS)

The Healthcare Administration Scholarship is available to students who want to work as healthcare administrators in Singapore’s public healthcare system.

There are both full-term and mid-term tracks available.

Eligibility Criteria

General: 

  • Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen
  • Must have Good co-curricular activities record and strong leadership qualities
  • Passion for serving in the public healthcare sector

Full-Term

  • SIT: 3-year bond period

3. Integrated Nursing Scholarship (INS)

The Integrated Nursing Scholarship program aims to develop the next generation of nurse leaders. It is only available to outstanding O-Level graduates who have demonstrated leadership potential and a desire to pursue a career in nursing.

Only the Full-Term track is available.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must be:

  • Singapore Citizen
  • Achieve outstanding O-Level results of ELR2B2 of 10 points and below
  • Applied to the nursing course at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) or Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP)
  • Passion for serving in the public healthcare sector
  • Good co-curricular activities record and strong leadership qualities
  • Must have good communication skills

5. Community Care Scholarship (CCS) – Healthcare Scholarships program

Individuals with a strong academic record and a desire to lead and make a difference in community care are eligible for the Community Care Scholarship.

6. Public Service Commission Scholarship (PSC Medicine/Dentistry)

The PSC (Medicine) and PSC (Dentistry) Scholarships are available to current local medicine and dentistry undergraduates, as well as those currently pursuing their Doctor of Medicine (MD) studies at Duke-NUS Medical School, in order to nurture and develop the next generation of leaders in the public healthcare sector.

Only the Mid-Term track is available.

Graduate Healthcare Scholarships program 

1. Community Care Scholarship (Postgraduate)

The Community Care scholarship (Postgraduate) is awarded to individuals with strong academic track records and a passion to lead and make a difference in community care.

2. Healthcare Graduate Studies Award

The Healthcare Graduate Studies Award is given to individuals who want to work in the public health sector and have demonstrated academic excellence as well as community spirit. You will work as part of a team of healthcare professionals who provide direct care to patients, or you will collaborate with policymakers or IT system professionals to improve Singapore’s public healthcare system.

Only the Full-Term track is available.

Healthcare Scholarships program Application Details 

Interviews are conducted from October to January of the following year for the following disciplines: Public Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Psychology & Business/Data Analytics.

While, interviews will be conducted from February to June for the following disciplines: Biostatistics, Health Economics, Audiology, Medical Informatics, Nursing & Speech Therapy.
