9. Williamstown, Massachusetts
The Berkshires, a patchwork of cute hamlets nestled among rolling hills and mountains, is a fantastic place to visit with kids for a classic New England vacation any time of year. Consider Williamstown, a sweet little village that’s infused with youthful energy courtesy of Williams College.
Here you can browse mom-and-pop bookstores, eat ice cream at Lickety Split, and enjoy the Clark Art Institute’s rich family programming and world-class collection of Impressionist art. A friendly herd of pastured cows roams the Clark’s acres of meadows and walking trails, which is an unexpected delight.
The upscale Williams Inn offers family-friendly amenities such as outdoor firepits and delicious dining.
10. London, England
The city of London is one of the most kid-friendly cities in the world and an especially great place for family vacations with teenagers. The London Eye, the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel, provides a bird’s-eye view of Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and the Houses of Parliament.
If your kids are at Potterheads, don’t miss the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London: The Making of Harry Potter, where the whole family can explore the Wizarding World at the studio where the eight films were produced.

Stay at The Dilly, which has a children’s library, a large indoor pool, and an unforgettable Peter Rabbit-themed tea.
Vietnam is an excellent destination for families with children who enjoy beaches, history, and nature. If your kids are as adventurous and interested in history as mine are, they’ll love visiting the Mekong Delta, where they can take a canoe ride through a small Vietnamese village, learn about the Vietnam War, and, most importantly, play on the beach.
In Vietnam, we visited Ho Chi Minh and made a stop at Cu Chi Tunnels. My 6-year-old was ecstatic to crawl through tunnels like soldiers in the Vietnam War. He went through it once and then asked to go again; I almost got stuck and was afraid to go again.
Ustravelhubs Tips: Vietnam is not stroller friendly. If you plan to travel with very young kids, consider bringing a baby or toddler carrier instead.
12. France – Best Places To Visit With Kids
France is well known for its cultural attractions and museums. While there are certainly more attractions that appeal to adults, France is also well known for the Eiffel Tower – a huge hit for my kids.
We took the kids to Paris on a surprise trip, and seeing the Eiffel Tower light up at night was magical for them. Also, we stopped at Disneyland Paris, which we all enjoyed. Although Disneyland Paris is smaller than Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida, we still felt the magic.
The teenager with us on this trip loved the Louvre Museum. She said it felt like she was in history class, but actually seeing it all in person. The Mona Lisa was her favorite work of art. She couldn’t wait to get back and tell her entire class about her adventure.
Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie is one of the children’s favorite museums. It is designed for young children and includes a variety of interactive activities to keep them entertained.
If your children enjoy art, history, and science, they will enjoy visiting museums in France as much as ours did.
13. Costa Rica
Costa Rica is one of Central America’s most popular tourist destinations. I chose to visit Costa Rica with my son when he was three years old because of its national parks, beaches, and adventurous activities.
We planned our itinerary ahead of time, and he was particularly enthusiastic about horseback riding, hiking, and ziplining. Ziplining, indeed. At 3! For safety, young children are paired with a ziplining guide. My three-year-old son begged to perform a few lines on his own. I owe his bravery to travel, which has exposed him to so many things.
In Costa Rica, we also rode horses, which was a wonderful experience, went to the beach, and fed monkeys.
14. Alexandria, Virginia – Best Places To Visit With Kids
Alexandria is an easy city to love, with postcard-perfect cobblestone streets and quick access to the wineries of northern Virginia. But these days, the reason to go is to see how effectively the city is confronting its own history, as destinations across the American South grapple with the legacy of the Confederacy.
Alexandria, founded as a tobacco port in 1749, was the site of the country’s largest domestic slave trade for decades in the nineteenth century.
Today, the Freedom House Museum has 3 new exhibitions honoring the people who were forcibly brought here. Meanwhile, the African American Heritage Trail, which opened in 2020, follows the Potomac River and encompasses nearly 200 years of history at 11 stops, such as the Torpedo Factory, where many Black men and women worked during World War II.
The route will be expanded with 20 new stops beginning in February 2023, including Waterfront Park, the port from which enslaved people were trafficked to places like New Orleans.
Visitors can learn about Benjamin Banneker, an inventor, mathematician, and free African American from Maryland who was part of the 1791 surveying team that determined the border of the new United States capital of Washington, D.C., at Jones Point Park.
(Manumission Tours, run by a fourth-generation Alexandrian, offers a more in-depth look at the city’s Black experience.) Morrison House Old Town Alexandria, Autograph Collection, the city’s most elegant stay, was recently named one of the best city hotels in the continental United States in T+L’s 2022 World’s Best Awards. In the winter of 2023, a new AKA Hotel will open in Old Town. Liz Cantrell’s
15. Cairo and the Nile – Best Places To Visit With Kids
The Grand Egyptian Museum, just a stone’s throw from the Great Pyramids of Giza, may finally open this spring, after more than a decade of construction — to say nothing of the hype.
What can we expect? More than 1 million square feet of exhibition space, treasures including a 40-foot-high statue of Ramses II, outdoor gardens, and an expansive plaza from which visitors can take in the desert surroundings.
Meanwhile, several new and luxurious ships have begun sailing the Nile: The Viking Osiris, an all-veranda ship carrying 82 passengers, and the opulent Sphinx from Uniworld Boutique River Cruises, which has 42 cabins swathed in marble and hand-carved wood, with beds dressed in fine Egyptian cotton sheets, are among the best options.
The hotel scene is also getting a facelift, with a new Mandarin Oriental set to open in downtown Cairo in 2024 and a forthcoming 200-room Four Seasons Hotel Luxor set to open in 2025 — not that you should wait that long to visit the ancient Valley of the Kings. — Sir John Wogan
16. Playa del Carmen, Mexico
Nickelodeon Hotels and Resorts Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen is the beach resort of your children’s dreams. The oceanfront resort is a 30-minute drive from Cancun’s international airport and features its own private beach, interactive entertainment based on Nickelodeon characters, and a massive six-acre outdoor water park with plenty of slides and rides for kids of all ages.
Oh, and every room has its own swim-up infinity pool overlooking the Caribbean Sea!
While there is plenty of entertainment and dining on-site, you can easily arrange for day trips outside the resort to popular Mexico vacation spots like Chichen Itza or Tulum right from the hotel lobby. With meals, activities, and lodging included, it’s a hassle-free vacation with no sticker shock when it comes time to pay the bill.
17. “City,” Nevada – Best Places To Visit With Kids in 2023
Even in a state known for its vast, empty landscapes, the Basin and Range National Monument, about a two-hour drive north of Las Vegas, takes the term “remote” to a whole new level. The 704,000-acre preserve, established in 2015, offers endless hiking, climbing, camping, and cycling opportunities; its desert valleys and mountain ranges are also dotted with Indigenous rock art sites.
But the reason to go now is “City,” the world’s largest contemporary artwork, which will open to the public in September 2022. The monumental open-air sculpture, a collection of mounds, depressions, and stelae conceived by artist Michael Heizer, was made from dirt, rock, and concrete and took more than 50 years to complete.
The project, which was made possible by joint contributions from art institutions across the country, including LACMA and MoMA, will be open to the public by reservation only during the 2023 season. The mile-and-a-half-long sculpture feels both ancient and futuristic, a destination as breathtaking as the natural beauty that surrounds it.
18. Aruba – Best Places To Visit With Kids
If visiting Europe’s top tourist attractions isn’t in the cards for you this year, the Caribbean island of Aruba provides a taste of the continent without crossing the Atlantic—and the beaches aren’t bad either. (Think turquoise water and flour-soft sand.)
An independent country since 1986, Aruba continues to maintain strong ties to the Netherlands. Locals communicate in Papiamento, a lyrical mix of Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Even the cuisine on the island is a delectable mash-up of tropical produce and traditional Dutch flavors like Gouda cheese.
When your family has had enough beach time, head inland to explore the stark desert terrain of the island’s Arikok National Park.
Stay at the Manchebo Beach Resort and Spa, a boutique hotel located on one of the most beautiful Caribbean beaches you’ll ever see.
19. New River Gorge National Park, West Virginia
A trip to a national park is an immersion in pristine beauty for the entire family. However, the recent surge in people seeking solace in Mother Nature means many of the most popular parks in the U.S. are experiencing higher visitation levels than normal.
What makes West Virginia’s New River Gorge one of the best places to visit with kids this year is that it only became a national park in December 2020, so it’s still relatively unknown to most visitors. The flowing water that continues to sculpt one of the Appalachian Mountains’ longest and deepest gorges is excellent for fishing, and a variety of colorful birds and amphibians make it an animal lover’s paradise.
Whitewater rafting, a treetop obstacle course, and the precarious Bridge Walk across the New River Gorge Bridge are particular highlights for families with big kids and tweens.
Tru by Hilton Beckley, located ten miles from the park, provides free breakfast and a lively lobby with a game zone, both of which are welcome perks for families. For something even closer, stay inside the park at Adventures on the Gorge, an outdoor outfitter with a resort right on the rim.
20. Santa Monica, California
It is never too early to begin thinking about sustainability. Visiting a city like Santa Monica where you don’t need a car is environmentally conscious—and with car rental prices sky-high these days, it’s financially sensible for a family trip, too.
Santa Monica defies the image of Los Angeles as a car-crazed metropolis, thanks to a robust cycling community, pedestrian-only shopping streets, and the Expo Line Light Rail connecting the community with greater Los Angeles.
You can splash in the Pacific waves, pedal the beachside bike path, and enjoy amusement rides (including a solar-powered Ferris wheel) at the Santa Monica Pier without driving.
And speaking of those Pacific waves, the Fairmont Miramar Hotel and Bungalows overlooks the ocean. It’s an opulent hideaway with poolside movies, private bungalows, and delectable dining.
21. Orlando, Florida
With its many famous theme parks and equally spectacular water parks, it’s no surprise that Orlando consistently ranks at the top of the list of places to visit with kids for a special vacation. And, with the Walt Disney Company turning 100 in 2023, the new year is an excellent time to plan a visit.
Even if Disney’s Star Wars Land, Universal’s Harry Potter theme park areas, or a Jurassic World-themed roller coaster aren’t your thing, Orlando is so much more. Outdoor activities such as zip lining and kayaking, as well as golf vacations, are among the other fantastic things to do in Orlando.
Kid-friendly attractions such as Madame Tussauds, SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium, and Andretti Indoor Karting and Games pretty much guarantee fun for everyone in the family.
When it’s time to unwind at the end of the day, stay at one of the many Disney World hotels in Orlando or venture further afield to neighboring Kissimmee, where Reunion Resort’s water park will keep kids entertained and refreshed during their vacation downtime.
22. Tangier, Morocco – Best Places To Visit With Kids
For decades, this northern Moroccan city has attracted streams of bohemian expats including, most famously, beat-generation writers Paul Bowles and William S. Burroughs. That’s how it got a reputation for being a place where foreigners went to live rather than just visit.
Tangier’s reputation, however, may change this spring, thanks in part to the opening of Villa Mabrouka, British designer Jasper Conran’s second Moroccan property, following the opening of L’Hôtel Marrakech in 2018.
The hillside property, which was once the private residence of fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent and his partner, has gorgeous views over the Bay of Tangier and is within walking distance of the city’s frenetic medina. Villa Mabrouka joins other newcomers such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, a space displaying work by regional artists that is also known as the Kasbah Museum due to its location in the renovated 17th-century Kasbah prison.
Also new on the proverbial block is the just-opened Fairmont Tazi Palace Tangier, set on a refurbished, century-old estate near the old city. The recently announced Waldorf Astoria, a 115-room and 21-villa resort set to open in 2025, is already generating excitement.
23. Boston, Massachusetts – Best Places To Visit With Kids
Boston, which is compact and walkable, serves as an entertaining backdrop for an American history lesson that is far more immersive than any textbook. Bring the kids and walk the 2.5-mile Freedom Trail, which includes 16 historically significant sites, including the Paul Revere House, before visiting the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museums for an interactive look at a pivotal event in our country’s history.
The Massachusetts capital also has plenty of urban green space, including the always-popular Boston Public Garden. Take a Swan Boat ride and see the Make Way for Ducklings statue, both of which are must-sees for fans of this children’s literary classic.
Stay at Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport for sweeping views of Boston Harbor. It has one of the city’s only rooftop swimming pools and is ideal for families.
24. San Juan, Puerto Rico
With no passport requirement for US citizens or lawful permanent residents, Puerto Rico is always one of the best places to visit with children. And, with reconstruction underway following Hurricane Fiona’s devastation in late 2022, Puerto Rico is once again ready to welcome tourists.
Families will enjoy strolling the distinctive blue-hued cobblestone streets and visiting the city’s famed fort, El Morro, before building sandcastles on San Juan’s fabulous beaches. Stay at the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel to combine city delights with a relaxing beachside vacation.
25. Canada – Best Places To Visit With Kids
Canada is best known for its hockey teams, natural landscapes and cold weather activities. Each province in Canada has its own unique sightseeing experience to offer, making a vacation to one of the Canadian provinces perfect for a family holiday.
Our favorite place to visit in Canada is Toronto, and we also go to Niagara Falls every time we visit. During the day, my son enjoyed riding the Maid of the Mist beneath the massive waterfalls. We booked a hotel with a view of the falls so he could see how the falls changed colors after dark.
We also chose to visit two of Canada’s most popular ski resorts, Lake Louise Ski Resort and Sunshine Village at Banff National Park. The scenery in Banff National Park is absolutely stunning. Mont-Tremblant is another summer gem.
26New Orleans, Louisiana
Although it has a reputation as an adult playground, New Orleans has some surprisingly kid-friendly outdoor attractions that make it an ideal destination for families in 2022.
Children can skip along shady footpaths lined with live oaks while taking in whimsical three-dimensional shapes at Besthoff Sculpture Garden. Leafy City Park is a magnolia-scented dream, complete with boating, mini-golf, tennis, and a carousel.
Snack on a sugar-dusted beignet at Café du Monde, groove to live music at the Jazz and Heritage Festival, and take in the varied bayou terrain on a guided kayak tour. Drury Plaza is a good choice for family accommodations in New Orleans because of its comfortable rooms, free breakfast, and all-day snacks like popcorn.
27. Mexico- Best Places To Visit With Kids
Mexico is a top tourist destination with cultural festivals and beautiful beaches. While some visitors are concerned about the country’s safety, we are completely the opposite. Our annual trips to Mexico convince us that it is an excellent destination for families. My kids love Mexico so much that they’ve even attended school there for a week.
Mexico has a plethora of all-inclusive resorts that we enjoy with both younger and older children. If your children are of varying ages, look for all-inclusive resorts that offer organized activities for teenagers as well as a kids’ club for younger children. I always reserve a resort with a kids’ club so that I can have some alone time and rest while the kids have a good time.
28. Spain: Best Places To Visit With Kids
Spain’s mild climate all year round makes it an ideal beach destination. A winter visit here isn’t as cold as it is in the rest of Europe.
There are numerous science museums for children to explore, as well as beautiful sand beaches.
Spain is also one of my kids’ favorite European countries to visit because they love the weather and the food, and everyone is so nice to them.
More so, Spain is well known for its European football teams, like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Soccer fans will want to see a live game. We didn’t have enough time to secure tickets for a game, but we did tour Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona. The tour was just as entertaining because we walked down the hallway where the players enter.
Gaudi’s art is everywhere, and Gaudi Park in Barcelona is one of the best places to see it all. We spent a whole day there exploring and enjoying the landscape and artwork at the park.
Spain is a chocolate lover’s paradise. You’ll want to eat chocolate at every chocolate museum in Spain. We did.
29. Boise, Idaho
Friendly Boise is a small city with plenty of elbow room and access to nature. A series of artistically designed parks and the Boise River Greenbelt provide space for families to raft, run, cycle, and rollerblade in the heart of town. A thriving food truck scene provides low-cost dining options for al fresco meals surrounded by towering mountains.
An aquarium, the interactive Discovery Center of Idaho, and the Basque Museum and Cultural Center are among the cultural attractions in this city with a large and vibrant Basque community.
The Residence Inn Boise Downtown City Center offers spacious guest suites with full kitchens that are ideal for families of all sizes and ages.
30. Athens: Best Places To Visit With Kids
Although it has a reputation as a stopover city, Athens deserves a closer look – and at least a few nights – in the coming year. The Athens Riviera has seen a surge of development not far from the Piraeus port, where travelers can board both domestic ferries and cruise ships that crisscross the Mediterranean.
The Four Seasons Astir Palace has a private beach on the sparkling Saronic Sea and two spaces designed by Swedish architect Martin Brudnizki, including a midcentury modern cocktail bar and Pelagos restaurant, which has already earned its first Michelin star. In the spring of 2023, One&Only Aesthesis will open just a few miles away, also along the waterfront.
Next door is the brand-new Experience Park, which includes trails, fitness classes, fountains, a Zen garden, and a plethora of native plants and flowers; it’s part of a $8-billion waterfront green space called The Ellinikon, which is still in the works on the former site of the city’s international airport.
The opening of the 43-room Xenodocheio Milos hotel in the Pláka neighborhood of central Athens in 2022 brings a bit of cosmopolitan verve from the team behind international restaurant brand Estiatorio Milos. While the Odeon of Herodes Atticus on the Acropolis isn’t new (it first opened around 1,900 years ago), it will reopen with a full schedule of shows in 2023 after a pandemic-era hiatus. — Kachroo-Levine, Maya
