The Canada Visa fee is a nonrefundable fee (money) paid for visa processing. This money is paid together or during visa application.

Before applying for a nonimmigrant visa, all applicants, including children, must pay a non-refundable, non-transferable visa application fee, also known as the MRV fee.

Note however that whether or not a visa is issued, the visa application fee must be paid.

Canadian Visa Processing Fees

Government processing fees are required with most visa applications, according to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). These fees apply regardless of nationality or place of origin.

The government processing fees for a permanent or temporary resident visa are determined by the number of family members accompanying the principal applicant and are in addition to any fees paid to an authorized representative, such as an attorney.

Canada Visa fees
Permanent residence fees are fees that applicants must pay if they want to immigrate to Canada permanently. As shown below, there are eight different types of fees.
Fees for permanent residence vary depending on the immigration stream to which you apply.
Applicants should be aware that once their application is approved, they will be required to pay the Right of Permanent Residence Fee, which is a separate fee that must be paid by all approved applicants, regardless of which program they applied under.

1. Right of permanent residence fee (RPRF)

Most applicants must pay this fee if their permanent residence application is approved. Therefore, if the Canadian Government informs you that you must pay the fee, you will be unable to become a permanent resident unless you make the payment.

This fee is non-refundable, but it will be reimbursed if you withdraw your application or the Canadian Government rejects it.

The following people are not covered by the RPRF:

  • Children of the principal sponsor or applicant;
  • Sponsorship applications for adopted children;
  • Applications for sponsorship of an orphaned sister, brother, nephew, niece, or grandchild
  • Protected persons, including convention refugees and those eligible on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.
