The Jason Lang scholarship program recognizes and rewards Alberta post-secondary students for their academic achievements and encourages them to continue in their undergraduate or professional program of study.

Students who meet the eligibility requirements are nominated by the Student Awards Office at the Alberta post-secondary institution where they are currently studying. If the student has transferred from another public funded post-secondary institution, their current institution will confirm the previous year’s eligibility criteria.

However, many other scholarships and awards are offered by other organizations – and we recommend you to visit Alberta’s public university and college websites to research the scholarships that they offer.

Note: You may receive this Jason Lang Scholarship Award ONCE per academic year.

Eligibility Requirements

Below are the eligibility criteria a student must meet in other to qualify for the Jason Lang scholarship program:

  • Applicant must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person (note that visa students are not eligible), be an Alberta resident.
    However, to be considered an Alberta resident one of the following conditions must apply:
    • one parent, or legal guardian has maintained permanent residence in Canada for at least 12 consecutive months immediately prior to the commencement of post-secondary studies and be living in Alberta;
      OR,
    • Alberta is the last place you have lived for 12 consecutive months immediately prior to commencing post-secondary education;
      OR,
    • Your spouse/partner has maintained permanent residence in Alberta for 12 consecutive months prior to the person entering post-secondary.
  • Enrollment Status: You need to be currently enrolled full-time (9.0 credit hours) in the second year or beyond of an undergraduate program at the University of Lethbridge.
  • Academic Achievement: Attain a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. This GPA should be based on at least 24.0 graded credit hours from the previous fall and spring terms combined.
  • Application Submission: Complete and submit the Jason Lang Application by the specified deadline to be considered for the scholarship.
  • Current Enrollment: It’s required that you are presently enrolled in classes at the University of Lethbridge. If you are taking courses at another institution as part of your program at uLethbridge, your nomination will be handled by that institution.
  • Transcript Submission (if applicable): If you attended another institution during the previous fall and spring terms, you’ll need to provide a transcript of your academic record for those terms. This includes students who take courses elsewhere as part of their degree program. Transcripts need to show your name, credit hours, and grades earned. Official transcripts are not necessary.

Term Definition: A “term” refers to a study period of up to 17 weeks in duration. Co-op work terms, internships, or exchange programs are eligible only if they are a mandatory component of your undergraduate or professional program.

  3. Receive a Louise McKinney Scholarship for the same study period.
  4. Have already been awarded the maximum of three Jason Lang Scholarships.

However, it’s possible for students to apply for both the Jason Lang and Louise McKinney Scholarships, but they’ll only be considered for nomination for one of these scholarships, not both.

Students at the University of Lethbridge can apply by first:
  • submitting a General Application, and
  • then the Jason Lang Scholarship (Alberta Scholarship Program) application.
  • Submit your completed application form to the Student Awards Office at your school.
